Celtic now reject approach for 'brilliant' new boy who starred in Glasgow Derby, says journalist

Celtic have dismissed an approach from Crystal Palace regarding winger Liel Abada, according to The Scottish Sun’s David Friel.

Abada, who only arrived in the summer from Maccabi Petah Tikva for £3m, was one of a number of Hoops new boys to star in the 3-0 win over Rangers on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old was ranked as Celtic’s third-best performer at Parkhead as Reo Hatate of course won the day, with Abada ending with a SofaScore match rating of 7.7/10.

He provided an assist for Hatate and netted Celtic’s third, taking his goal contribution tally for the season to 22 in 37 games. And it seems as if his first campaign in Glasgow is catching the eye of the Eagles, who signed Odsonne Edouard over the summer.

According to The Scottish Sun, the Hoops have dismissed a ‘tentative approach’ from the Eagles for Abada, who Ange Postecoglou called ‘brilliant’ earlier this season.

They add that Celtic have no plans to part ways with the Israeli, who is under contract until 2026.

It’s good to see that CEO Michael Nicholson has no plans to enter discussions with the Premier League side over Abada. The youngster has impressed in his first season in Scotland, and you’d expect he’ll only get better with age under Postecoglou.

He seems to have nailed down the starting spot on the right-hand side, and with Jota on the left and Kyogo Furuhashi through the middle when fit, and with plenty of attacking options from the bench, Celtic fans should be excited in the long run.

Abada’s Transfermarkt valuation has already jumped from £2.7m to £4.05m as a Celtic player, and should he continue to impress, it will only be a matter of time until it hits eight-figures.
