Celtic looking to land summer coup after ‘holding talks’ with Bayern Munich over midfielder

Celtic have reportedly held ‘talks’ with promising young Bayern Munich midfielder Christopher Scott over a potential Glasgow switch.

The 19-year-old is currently locked in discussions with the Bundesliga giants over extending his existing contract, which is due to expire in a few month’s time.

Bayern are said to have an option to activate a clause that will extend the deal. However, Scott wants regular first-team football – which throws a potential spanner in the works.

And according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg (as cited by footballscotland), Ange Postecoglou’s side have expressed an interest in youngster.

The report adds that Brentford are also keen and could challenge Celtic over a summer deal.

Scott, who is of Ghanaian descent, made his professional debut for Bayern in a 1-1 draw with Union Berlin last April.

However, the Germany Under-20 international has only made one more first-team appearance since then. That came just 10 days after his debut against Bayern Leverkusen, when he appeared as a late substitute.

The attacking midfielder has featured regularly for Bayern’s second string, who play in the fourth tier in Germany.

Scott actually joined Bayern from Leverkusen in 2020, having failed to make an appearance for the latter.

If Celtic do manage to snatch the player, it will be viewed as somewhat of a coup for Postecoglou’s men.

Indeed, Scott has featured for Germany at all youth levels and has a good goalscoring record for Bayern’s reserve side.

Celtic, meanwhile, are back in action on Sunday when they face Old Firm rivals Rangers in a huge clash.
