Celtic latest news: 'Huge boost' for Ange Postecoglou after defining Parkhead moment

Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that Celtic‘s recent Old Firm victory was a “huge boost psychologically” for the club.

The Hoops ended their two-and-a-half year wait for a win over their Glasgow rivals earlier this month and ignited their Scottish Premiership title hopes in the process.

Not even the most optimistic Celtic supporter could have envisaged 2022 panning out how it has done. In under four weeks, Ange Ange Postecoglou’s side have turned a six point gap into a one point lead having collected maximum points in their six league fixtures since returning from the winter break.

During that run of six victories, one was a comprehensive win over Rangers, which saw Celtic leapfrog their rivals and go top of the Scottish Premiership.

But Celtic haven’t rested on their laurels since dispatching Rangers.

On Sunday, they produced another excellent performance to win 4-0 at Motherwell before collecting three more points at Aberdeen in midweek to keep their place at the top of the standings following Jota’s second half winner.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It was a huge win for Celtic, not just the manner of the performance, but psychologically, it was a huge win.

“They hadn’t won an Old Firm derby for almost two years, so to get that monkey off their back and show they can compete with Rangers and beat them, I think it was a huge boost for Ange Postecoglou‘s side.”

Despite their incredible form, which has seen them not only win six games on the bounce since drawing at St Mirren but pick up 50 points from a possible 54 available, Celtic are still only one point clear of Rangers, meaning there’s still plenty of work to do.
