CAVB Championship: APR of Rwanda shock Tunisia’s Carthage in Pool A opener

Rwandan side, APR, secured a stunning 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23) victory over Tunisia’s CFC in the Pool A opener of the Abuja 2025 CAVB Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship, yesterday.

CFC started strong, dominating the first set with powerful hits to claim a 25-18 win. They came out fighting in the second set and led at the first technical timeout.

But APR eventually regrouped, outplaying them to win the second set 26-24. The Rwandans showed their versatility and blocking strength to keep the Tunisians from gaining any real traction in the third set, winning 25-23.

APR launched a passionate comeback and was dominant throughout the fourth set, forcing CFC to effect substitutions and time-outs.

Although CFC closed the gap to 23-22, APR ramped up their game to stop the Tunisians’ attacks, winning 25-23 to seal a famous victory.

Twenty-four clubs are playing in the 2025 African Women’s Club Volleyball Championship, which began in Abuja on April 1 and will end on April 14, 2025. This event will bring together Africa’s top teams, all vying for the highly coveted title.
