Castleford Tigers coach Lee Radford on beating old club, 'phenomenal' Greg Eden and Cain Robb admiration

Lee Radford insists he is not taking any extra joy from claiming his first win as Castleford Tigers head coach against old club Hull FC.

It was a reunion to remember for Radford as Castleford opened the scoring straight from the kick-off and went on to secure a gutsy 33-26 victory.

Radford was taking on his former employers for the first time since his sacking two years ago - but the overriding emotion was relief after getting off the mark with Castleford at the fourth time of asking.

"It wasn't any more special," he said.

"It was just special to get a win after three, going on four weeks of hard work.

"I would have preferred it in round one but the manner of the result was important for us.

"We took a couple of uppercuts on Monday through the disciplinary - rightly or wrongly - and also pulled a couple of hammies in training on Monday.

"The determination was there to see from Monday. How we've been this week has been fantastic and today was an end result of that."

Niall Evalds was conspicuous by his absence and Radford revealed afterwards that the full-back was one of the players nursing a hamstring issue.

Greg Eden benefitted from the enforced changes and he took his opportunity in some style with a hat-trick.

"We're still waiting to find out the severity," Radford said on Evalds' injury.

"That shook us a little bit and caused some late changes.

"But I thought Greg Eden on his first game of the season was phenomenal.

"Our big blokes as well in George Lawler, Dan Smith and Joe Westerman was as good as I've seen this year."

Paul McShane played in the halves as part of the reshuffle and won Castleford's official man of the match, while young hooker Cain Robb caught the eye off the bench.
