Casemiro should listen to his own advice after Man United player's Toni Kroos message

He was known as their bodyguard. The straight man in a generational three-man midfield that conquered world football.

Toni Kroos and Luka Modric may not have scaled such grand heights without the presence of Casemiro behind them. Their flair was perfectly complemented by the Brazilian's steel and game intelligence.

Together, the trio won four Champions Leagues at the heart of an outstanding Real Madrid team. Sadly, they are all past their peak these days, the three of them broken up in 2022 when Casemiro left for Manchester United. Now Kroos has announced that he will retire after this summer's European Championship, with the intention of going out at the top.

"After 10 years, at the end of the season this chapter comes to an end," the German wrote this week.

“At the same time this decision means that my career as an active footballer will end this summer after the Euro championship. As I have always said: Real Madrid is and will be my last club. I am happy and proud, that in my mind I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it by my own. My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance level.”

Kroos has enjoyed an incredible career. He won 10 trophies for Bayern Munich early in his career, but the summer of 2014 was the moment he shot up to another level, winning the World Cup with Germany and sealing a move to Madrid, where he's made 463 appearances and won 21 trophies. "One of the greatest players in the history of Real Madrid," said the club's president, Florentino Perez.
