Carlos Corberan wouldn't want to repeat Man Utd mistake by following Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United

As the Terriers season is set for a thrilling conclusion with them now nicely placed in third in the Championship table and seventeen games unbeaten in all competitions, things are not looking quite so good a few miles away.

With the announcement that Marcelo Bielsa had parted company with Leeds on Sunday morning Leeds United’s season has come to a head. In relegation trouble and with the worst goals conceded in the top tier it may have felt inevitable, but it’s still been a seismic decision.

The aftershocks will go on for a while but there is one question worth asking here; what does this mean for Huddersfield Town? The two clubs are linked by one man, Carlos Corberan, and some bookmakers have him as high as second favourite to take over at Elland Road.

Things can change in football so all we can write in this article is an opinion, but whilst there might be a lot of 2 + 2 = Corberan taking over at Leeds, when you actually look into it there appears to be less to worry about in truth.

Firstly, replacing Bielsa is a huge job and it might be true that Leeds’ first point of succession planning may well have been Corberan during his time with the club, but the role of Leeds manager has changed significantly in that time.

The next man in has huge boots to fill. Bielsa’s shadow will linger over the role for years in the same way a Ferguson or Wenger has. Whilst nowhere near as successful as those two it could and probably should be argued the Argentine was as transformative.

Therefore it has become somewhat of a poisoned chalice. There is an opportunity there but also huge pressure right from the off. The value of personality and a name to try and appease large sections of what, despite results, will still be a hugely
