Carlos Corberan admits Huddersfield Town star may force change for play-off final

Danny Ward has been Huddersfield Town’s undisputed first-choice centre-forward all season, but Carlos Corberan admits he is torn between the two of them as the side’s Championship play-off final at Wembley fast approaches.

The Terriers have travelled to London ready to face Nottingham Forest in Sunday afternoon’s 4:30pm kick off with Ward as the side’s top scorer, but Jordan Rhodes’ good recent form and the improvement in his all-round game as the season has gone on will give the head coach pause for thought before he hands in his final teamsheet.

Rhodes missed most of the first half of the campaign with a back injury but got a run in the starting lineup over the final three games of the season with Ward himself not fully fit with a hamstring issue, claiming a goal and an assist in a superb showing at Middlesbrough and bagging another against Barnsley.

Most crucially of all, the striker then came off the bench just before the break in the play-off semi-final second leg against Luton Town after Ward was forced off with a minor injury and went on to score the goal that secured the Terriers’ place in the final.

Asked if it was therefore hard to choose between the pair, Corberan said: “It’s not difficult because any striker that I decide to play I think is going to be the right one. I could select both (either) and tell you that I did the right thing, because I think both strikers now arrive to the final period of the season at in a good level.
