Carabao Cup: Everton and Chelsea survive scares, Zak Gilsenan on mark for Blackburn

Everton came from behind to beat Doncaster 2-1 and book their place in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The Toffees had lost their opening three Premier League games and an upset looked on the cards when Joe Ironside gave Rovers – bottom of Sky Bet League Two – the lead just before half-time with a header from a corner.

Portuguese striker Beto came off the bench to mark his Everton debut with a goal in the 73rd minute, stabbing a long ball past onrushing Rovers goalkeeper Ian Lawlor.

Buckley slotted in a penalty for his second goal on 52 minutes, which was followed by a fine free-kick from former Republic of Ireland U19 international Zak Gilsenan.

Teenage debutants Tom Bloxham and James Edmondson completed the scoring in the closing stages.
