Car ploughs into butchers' shop - but driver somehow escapes injury

The driver of a car that ploughed into a butchers' shop in Tameside escaped the crash with no serious injuries, police have confirmed.

Dramatic pictures from the scene yesterday afternoon (Monday) showed a red Suzuki Swift smashed through a back wall of Boult's Butchers in Stalybridge. At least half of the vehicle had ploughed through the wall, with photos showing debris on the ground next to the car.

Luckily, the shop was closed to customers at the time. This morning, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said no serious injuries were reported in the crash.

Just one person was in the car - a male driver, the spokesperson added. No arrests were made.

Allan Bentley, who captured images from the scene, told the Manchester Evening News: "By an amazing stroke of luck they've had the day off and are back in tomorrow according to a note on the shop window. People driving past could be heard shouting 'you can't park there' and 'it's not a drive through'."

Firefighters were seen working in the area following the crash on Back Melbourne Street. Police officers also responded.

A walkway by the side of Boult's Butchers was taped off on Melbourne Street. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it attended the incident at around 3.30pm.
