Canadian GP: Max Verstappen eyeing another Red Bull one-two after Baku victory
Max Verstappen says that he is hoping for another Red Bull one-two this weekend as Formula 1 returns to Canada for the first time since 2019.
The sport has been away from Montreal since before the pandemic, with the North American nation imposing travel restrictions in the last couple of years that meant the paddock simply could not enter the country without too much hassle.
Now, though, F1 is back in Canada and it certainly looks and sounds as though the drivers are eager to get going at a track that is as popular with them as it is with the fans.
Speaking ahead of the weekend, reigning world champion Verstappen had this to say, as he and the team look to build on a great result in Azerbaijan last weekend that saw them secure a one-two finish:
“We haven’t been to Montreal for a while so it’s exciting to go back and see how the track is, it has quite a unique layout and it will be interesting to see what the surface is like, hopefully our car will work well this weekend. I always look forward to going to Montreal, it’s a really beautiful city and arriving off the back of a 1-2 in Baku, it would be great to leave Canada with the same result.
“It is of course great that we are ahead in the Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championships but there’s still a long way to go, we need to keep pushing as a Team and maximise point scoring as much as possible.”
