Canadian GP: 5 big questions that need answers this weekend

The Canadian Grand Prix makes a welcome and long-awaited return to the Formula 1 calendar this weekend as Montreal hosts a race for the first time since 2019.

The pandemic, and resultant travel restrictions in the country, meant that the sport did not visit in either 2020 and 2021, but that time has passed and we can now look forward to racing at one of the most popular circuits in the sport.

What are the big questions for the weekend, though? We take a look…

Can anyone stop Red Bull?

Red Bull are in a commanding position in the Constructors’ championship and in the Drivers’ championship, with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez currently one and two in the standings.

Indeed, their car now looks very robust alongside being quick, especially over a full race distance, and such a combination is daunting for the rest of the field.

Can anyone get on top of them in Canada? It’s currently hard to see past them at the moment.

Have Ferrari found some answers?

Ferrari will obviously be the team thinking they can take the fight to Red Bull but after a double retirement in Baku all eyes will be on them and whether they can just finish the race.

Charles Leclerc has had no luck in recent weeks despite driving superbly, whilst Ferrari customers Haas and Alfa Romeo both had retirements in Azerbaijan last time out as well.

It’s clear something isn’t quite right with the Ferrari power unit and it remains to be seen what progress has been made in the last week to try and rectify it.

Will Sebastian Vettel’s form continue?

Vettel is in decent form at the moment with points finishes in the last two races and a really strong weekend being posted last time out in Baku.
