Canada's Megan Oldham wins Olympic bronze in freeski slopestyle

Canada's Megan Oldham captured a bronze medal in the women's freeski slopestyle event at the Milano-Cortina Olympic Games on Monday.

It's the first Olympic medal win for the 24-year-old freestyle skier from Parry Sound, Ont.

Oldham entered the final run in third place and solidified her podium position with her best score of 76.46.

After putting occupying third place with a first-round score of 69.76, Oldham crashed on the final jump of her second run. However, she recovered to post the best score of the third round and held off Great Britain's Kirsty Muir, whose final run was a mere 0.11 points behind the Canadian.

Switzerland's Mathilde Gremaud scored 86.96 in her second run to repeat as Olympic champion.

Eileen Gu of China led after the first round with a score of 86.58, but was unable to improve on that mark and settled for silver for a second straight Games.

Naomi Urness of Mont-Tremblant, Que., finished seventh in her Olympic debut.

Oldham is the second Canadian to win a medal at Milano Cortina. Speed skater Valérie Maltais won bronze in the women's 3,000 metres on Saturday.
