Canada’s Kelly Ann Laurin, Loucas Éthier earn bronze in Skate America pairs event

Canadian figure skaters Kelly Ann Laurin and Loucas Éthier earned bronze in the pairs event at Skate America on Saturday.

The duo recorded a total score of 182.87, including 121.58 points in the free skating segment, to finish third in the event held in Lake Placid, N.Y.

It’s the pair’s second bronze medal in Skate America. They also finished third in the 2022 event with a score of 156.94.

Japan’s Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara won gold with 215.99 points, while Anastasiia Metelkina and Luka Berulava of Georgia grabbed silver with a score of 195.73.

Miura and Kihara placed first in Saturday’s free skating to secure top spot on the podium, scoring 141.57 points — almost exactly 20 more points than the Canadians, who finished second in the segment. 

Metelkina and Berulava were the leaders coming out of Friday’s short program but finished fourth in free skating.

Elsewhere, Canadian ice dancers Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha placed second in the rhythm dance segment on Saturday with a score of 77.42.

The second and final segment, the free dance, will take place Sunday.
