Canada's Dandjinou golden again at short track World Tour event in Seoul

Canadian short track speed skater William Dandjinou made it two gold-medal wins in as many days at a World Tour stop in South Korea.

The Montreal native won the men's 1,000-metre final on Sunday, a day after claiming gold in the men's 1,500m final.

Dandjinou crossed the line in Sunday's final in one minute, 24.548 seconds to claim the gold medal ahead of Dutch skater Jens van 't Wout (1:24.741).

Dandjinou took the lead with four laps to go and never gave it up.

"I didn't want Jens [van 't Wout] to have the lead too early, so I managed to grab it from him," the Canadian said in a release.

On the women's side, Florence Brunelle, of Trois-Rivières, Que., shook off sickness to take the silver medal in the 500m final.

"Behind the scenes this week has been a hell of a ride," Brunelle said. "A lot of motivation to keep going because I want to get gold."

The next ISU Short Track World Tour stop will be in the Netherlands beginning on February 7th.

The Canadian Ice Maples lead the way in the ISU Team Crystal Globe standings at the holiday break, with a total of 6,116 points. The Korean White Tigers are in second place with 5,448 points, followed by the Dutch Lions at 4,120 points.
