Can you answer these 15 questions about past Wimbledon champions? [quiz]

This year’s Wimbledon is fast approaching, but how good is your knowledge of the competition.

The tournament is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and widely regarded as the most prestigious.

This year, the competition has been surrounded by controversy, after the All England Club decided to ban Russian and Belarusian players from competing amid Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

In response, the ATP and WTA announced that no ranking points would be on offer for the event.

Reigning ladies singles champion Ashleigh Barty will not defend her title, having retired earlier this year.

Instead, world number one Iga Swiatek will be the overwhelming favourite to claim her first Wimbledon title and her third Grand Slam win overall.

On the men’s side of the draw, Novak Djokovic will bid for his seventh title at the All England Club, while the in-form Rafael Nadal will try for his third.

Neither Roger Federer nor Serena Williams has confirmed they will play at Wimbledon this year, though both could still accept wildcards to play in the main draw.

In years gone by, the competition has given birth to numerous tennis icons and produced some of the most memorable matches of all time.

In light of this, we’ve devised a quiz to test your knowledge of some of the tournament’s most famous champions.

From Nadal to Navratilova, try your luck at these questions and let us know how you get on!

If you manage to get more than 12 right we’ll be very impressed.
