'Can we move on?' - Rio Ferdinand makes glaring Man United and Erik ten Hag admission

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has admitted he did not expect the mood around Erik ten Hag to sour so quickly this season after the heavy defeat to Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

Brennan Johnson gave Spurs an early lead in the first half, while Bruno Fernandes was sent-off moments before the break. Tottenham continued to turn the screw in the second 45 minutes and ran out comfortable winners thanks to further goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke.

After the match, scrutiny turned on Ten Hag and whether he has a future at the club. MEN Sport understands the Dutchman will remain in charge for the clashes with Porto and Aston Villa at a minimum, but beyond that his long-term job security is unclear - with countless people having their say.

Speaking ahead of the Champions League match between Slovan Bratislava and Manchester City, Ferdinand was quizzed on his thoughts on the state of United. "That was embarrassing," he said with regards to the 3-0 reverse at the hands of Ange Postecoglou's side.

"There were so many aspects, especially in the first 45, that you look at. Like a centre-back marauding through the United team at Old Trafford. It's like; 'Wow'. It's embarrassing and that's not going too harsh at all.

"United were all over the place in the first half in terms of structure, in terms of the ability to play with the ball in and out of possession. Defensively and all over the park, not taking responsibility as a team but also as individuals.
