Call of Duty: Vanguard's multiplayer is free to play this week

Call of Duty: Vanguard’s multiplayer is free to play from Wednesday, May 18, and will run through until Tuesday, May 24.

Players who download the multiplayer trial will have access to over 20 maps in the multiplayer portion of the game, while there will also be the option to play in nine separate modes.

You can try out classic modes such as Dome, Castle, Radar, and Shipment, while you are also able to use the Quick Play Filter.

In addition to that, players who download the trial will have access to Arms Race, too, which is a base-capturing mode that plays out on large maps. It was added to Vanguard’s multiplayer in Season 2.

In addition to that, there is nothing that is actually off limits in the trial in terms of Vanguard’s multiplayer.

Per Gamesradar, that includes the Mayhem map, which was added at the launch of Season 3.

Of course, for any Call of Duty players out there, they will be aware that the map, which takes place on a 1950s monster movie set, ties in with the Godzilla vs King Kong event that is currently happening in Warzone.

Call of Duty: Vanguard actually had a relatively mixed reception when it launched back in November of last year.

It received a mixed Metacritic score of 73, with 34 positive reviews and 33 mixed receptions, but the user score sits at just 3.5 from 1,308 ratings.

Of course, such huge releases usually have an element of review-bombing when they are first released, but the score is not great.

Still, this new update gives players the chance to dive in free of charge and see what they think of Vanguard.

Activision may well be hoping that it leads to an uptick in sales, too, and an expansion of the existing player base.
