"By the end of this international break" - Journalist shares Manchester United manager update

Manchester United’s hierarchy want to have a good idea of who the club’s next manager will be by the end of the current international break, according to insider Dean Jones.

Ralf Rangnick is the interim boss at Old Trafford, and will take charge of the team until the end of the season, but he looks set to be replaced ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has emerged as the favourite for the job in recent days. The 52-year-old has been in charge of the European giants for over four years, and has won the title twice, plus the Dutch Cup on two occasions.

However, he is not the only name in the mix. Mauricio Pochettino could also return to the Premier League after previous spells at Tottenham and Southampton, with it being reported that United have recently interviewed the Argentine coach.

Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that Luis Enrique is admired at Old Trafford and could be a contender for the manager’s position, although it appears unlikely that he would walk out on Spain ahead of this year’s World Cup.

Jones has confirmed that ten Hag remains the frontrunner to take over from Rangnick. He has also claimed that the Red Devils have targeted this week to make significant progress in their bid to appoint their next manager.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I still think that it’s most likely to be ten Hag, but there’s no decision announced yet. The aim was that by the end of this international break, at least the people within the club knew where they were heading, and then they would announce it publicly at a later stage.”
