Bury bonfire and fireworks displays happening in 2024

As the days become colder and the nights grow darker, many families will be looking forward to bonfire night season to brighten their autumn.

It’s increasingly rare for councils to put on traditional fires and displays, with cash-strapped local authorities across the country reigning in their festivities in the last few years in light of spiralling costs.

Bury FC also hosted a big firework event last year but will not be hosting a display in 2024. The club said that over the summer they installed a new playing surface and ‘a display of this nature would not be appropriate’.

But while Bury’s council organised bonfire celebrations seem to be a thing of the past, there are still plenty of activities taking place across the borough to celebrate November 5. Every year, Bonfire Night commemorates the failed gunpowder plot initiated by Guy Fawkes which sought to blow up the House of Lords and King James I in 1605.
