Burke claims four-star Grand Prix win in Spain

Galway's Jessica Burke and the Liam Nicholas-bred 14-year-old gelding Express Trend beat-off 47 fellow competitors to win Sunday's four-star 1m55 Grand Prix at the Spanish Sunshine Tour in Vejer De La Frontera.

With just three combinations jumped clear in the first round, Burke went on to post the fastest of just two double clears to take the winners prize of just over €26,000.

Burke had earlier finished third in the 1m50 jump-off class riding African Affair.

After her victory, Burke commented: "It was an incredibly brave and wise decision by the Sunshine Tour team to run the Grand Prix on grass today. The track is really incredible.

"My horse is in brilliant shape right now. He hadn’t jumped on grass since Dublin last year, so I was a little worried at first… but once I jumped two fences in the warm-up, I noticed he was amazing."
