Bundee Aki signs new deal with IRFU and Connacht

Bundee Aki has agreed a new deal with the IRFU that will keep him at Connacht until the summer of 2025.

The 33-year-old has agreed a central contract extension with the IRFU, ensuring he stays at the Sportsground for two more seasons.

The New Zealand native has been in some of the best form of his career in recent months, and was the standout player in Ireland's Rugby World Cup campaign, which has seen him nominated for World Rugby men's XV player of the year.

The centre scored five tries at the World Cup and was named player of the match in the Pool B wins against Tonga and South Africa, playing every minute of the five games for Andy Farrell's side.

It marked a turnaround in form for the 52-cap international, whose form in late 2022 and early 2023 saw him dropped by Connacht, leading to speculation he could leave the province.

However, rumours of his exit proved to be unfounded, and he has now agreed a contract extension which will keep him in Galway, where he has played since 2014.

"Playing in Ireland means the world to me and I am delighted to sign a contract extension with the IRFU and Connacht," Aki said.

"Since moving to Galway nine years ago, Ireland has become a home from home and I am incredibly grateful to my coaches, teammates and supporters for making my family and I so welcome here. We've made great friends and incredible memories together and I am excited about the talent that is coming through across the country.

"I believe that there are more great days to come in the green of Connacht and Ireland and I am hugely excited about what the future holds."

Aki made his debut for Ireland after qualifying on residency grounds in 2017, and moved past 50 caps during the Rugby World Cup.
