Bulls set Vics final-session Shield chase

A dramatic finale to the crucial Sheffield Shield match in Melbourne seems assured after Queensland's bold declaration set Victoria a one-day match style run chase.

Queensland captain Jimmy Peirson called time on his side's innings at 7-246, setting the ladder-leading Victoria a victory target of 236 in 45 overs.

The Vics lost opener Travis Dean (1) to the bowling of Gurinder Sandhu in the short session before tea to be 1-13.

Marcus Harris (10no) and Peter Handscomb (2no) are currently at the crease.

Queensland resumed on day four at 3-69, just 58 runs clear of the home side, but a well-made half-century from Peirson and a whirlwind knock from James Bazley set up the opportunity to declare.

Having guided his side away from danger, Peirson upped the scoring rate before being last man to fall for 76 in a 141-ball innings.

Bazley cracked an unbeaten 42 off 56 balls, hitting five fours and a six.

Young paceman Mitch Perry claimed 3-61, and spinner Jon Holland returned 3-67 from a marathon 29 overs.
