Bulls derby an opportunity for Stormers to continue improving - assistant coach Hlungwani

There was a sense of chaos in the North-South derby at Loftus earlier this year. The Stormers were full of fun and stunned the Bulls by leading 18-7 at half-time.

Then, the Bulls orchestrated what would have been a stunning comeback by leading up until the last four minutes of the game.

Here's what takes the cake: a production gremlin conspired to see to it that viewers watching the exhilarating match weren't able to see a full-time 30-26 Stormers win.

The feed was cut and the result was only circulated after multiple updates. This week the derby will be two-fold: a Currie Cup engagement (Bulls vs WP), and a United Rugby Championship (URC) match.

Forwards coach Rito Hlungwani told reporters on Monday they are ready for the URC challenge that will be presented at the weekend.

"It's nice to have won five games in a row, but the process has been we want to get better every single game and that's the same mindset for this weekend," Hlungwani said. 

"The North-South derby is always a big one, and we are hoping that the fans can come through and enjoy the game. We are expecting them (the Bulls) to come at us hard and impose their physicality on us," the forwards coach said, adding:

He said the kicking game is a facet of play the team will be looking to sharpen ahead of the derby, while he is certain the Bulls won't divert from their hard running approach.

The match will also have a bearing the look and feel of the URC table. The Stormers are currently 6th on the log, a point ahead of their opponents, with the Sharks also looking to pounce in 8th place.
