Bukayo Saka: Arsenal star's wholesome reaction to winning England award

Bukayo Saka has been named England‘s Player of the Year for the 2021/22 season.

West Ham United‘s Declan Rice finished second in the fan voting, while Tottenham Hotspur‘s Harry Kane – the nation’s captain and soon-to-be record goalscorer – took the bronze medal.

Both of those two players would have been worthy winners of the accolade, but it’s great to see Saka claim it after the shocking abuse he suffered over his costly penalty miss in the Euro 2020 final.

The 20-year-old was Arsenal‘s main man throughout the course of last season and he nearly helped drag the team into the Champions League places.

In 43 appearances across all competitions, Saka scored 12 goals and assisted a further seven.

Four of the teams he scored against in Premier League action over the course of the campaign were Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.

And at international level in 2021/22, Saka made nine appearances for England and scored three goals. He was also named Man of the Match in England’s 4-0 win over Andorra at Wembley Stadium last September.

Not bad, Bukayo.

Saka received his latest individual accolade on Friday afternoon and his reaction was as wholesome as it gets.

In a special ‘prank press conference’ created by England’s media team and attended by a group of young grassroots footballers, Saka was handed the award before he sat down and the look on his face was priceless.
