BSB Navarra test: ‘Last minute’ plans leave Haslam happy

Leon Haslam was riding high at the Bennetts British Superbike Test at Navarra last weekend despite no plans confirmed for 2023.

A BSB-spec BMW was the weapon of choice as Haslam secured second in the combined standings following three days of track action at the Spanish circuit. His 1’38.519 Monday morning effort displacing Glenn Irwin’s Sunday best for the runner’s up position.

“Honestly, it was a little bit last minute getting all this together, just to come and spin some laps,” Haslam admitted from Northern Spain. “The guys have worked really well, everyone’s new and it’s been a struggle the last few months trying to just get here.

“To come here with what we’ve got, times have come relatively easy.

“I’ve not thrown any X tyres at it, we’ve done it all on the SC0,” the 2018 British champion continued. “It’d have been nice to be in a position where I felt I could just throw a soft tyre at it and see what lap time I could do but we’re not here for that.

“We’re just trying to try a lot of different things and I feel like we’ve got through a majority of the stuff. We’re finished a little bit early on this last day, but so far, so good. Got a bit of work to do now when we get back to the UK to see if we can put it all together for the season.”
