Bryan Mbeumo gives Man United green light for huge transfer as target 'picks club'
Manchester United have reportedly won the race for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo and will now open talks with the Bees over a deal for the forward.
The 25-year-old is in the final 12 months of his contract in West London, and after contributing more than 25 goals in the Premier League this season, had been linked with moves to Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.
However, The Athletic claims it is Ruben Amorim's side who have won the race for the forward's signature and will now open talks with Brentford to try and strike a deal.
Last month, Brentford manager Thomas Frank admitted it would be hard for the Bees to keep hold of Mbeumo this summer, though he insisted any deal to take him away from the GTech Community Stadium would be a "nice amount."
"It is clear that if he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount," Frank told Viaplay. "It is a lot. Mucho. Really a lot.
"Then it is clear that it is impossible to replace him one for one. It cannot be done. There is a reason why he costs x number of million pounds, and we do not have x number of million pounds to buy for.
"I would say that I would be surprised if a lot of big clubs don’t look at him. I would be surprised with what he has to offer.
“How many wingers score 20 goals for a mid-table club? And then with seven assists plus his work ethic. And his character. All these things mean that he has a lot, so he is a good player."
On Sunday, United announced the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
