Bruno Fernandes issues exciting two-word verdict on Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has indicated he's a big fan of youngster Kobbie Mainoo after the pair trained together at Carrington on Monday.

Hopes are high for Mainoo after he impressed during the latter stages of last season. The 18-year-old has made three appearances for the senior team so far and this campaign was earmarked to be his breakthrough year.

However, this optimism was halted when the Stockport-born teenager suffered an ankle injury during the pre-season defeat to Real Madrid in the US. While the coming together looked innocuous at the time, the issue has kept Mainoo sidelined ever since.

The midfielder eventually made his return to training prior to the international break, joining in with the rest of his teammates before the Galatasaray Champions League clash. It was expected Mainoo would be fit enough to at least make the bench against Sheffield United at the weekend but he was left out.

Any concerns about his injury having flared up again were put to rest on Monday when Mainoo joined his teammates at Carrington for full training. After the session, the United captain took to Instagram to praise the midfielder.

Sharing a picture of the pair in training on his story, Fernandes added the caption: "Star boy." The term of endearment is often used to denote young players who have high potential in football.

Fernandes' feelings are shared by his manager Erik ten Hag who has confirmed on several occasions Mainoo will be given chances once he is fully fit.
