Bruno Fernandes gives honest verdict on Manchester United performance vs Wolves

Captain Bruno Fernandes admitted that Manchester United did not know what to expect from Wolves following their 1-0 win at Old Trafford on Monday night.

United got their 2023/24 Premier League campaign off to a winning start thanks to a 76th-minute header from Raphael Varane. The Frenchman rose highest inside the box to connect with Aaron Wan-Bissaka's centre.

United were second best all evening and would have been severely punished had Wolves brought their shooting boots to M16. They squandered a whole host of chances and had a very strong penalty claim waved away in second-half injury time after goalkeeper Andre Onana clattered striker Sasa Kalajdzic.

Wolves were keen to impress on their first outing under new boss Gary O'Neil, who was appointed as Julen Lopetegui's successor last week, and they did more than enough to impress their travelling army of supporters. They attacked United from the off and cut through their midfield with ease.

The Reds were disjointed and lacking the control that Erik ten Hag so often demands of his players. And Fernandes, who captained United as permanent skipper in a competitive fixture for the first time, admitted that the Reds did not know what to expect from the Black Country outfit because of their recent change in manager.
