Broken down lorry causes hour-long delays near Newport - live updates

The recovery of a broken down lorry is causing major delays in Newport this morning.

Two lanes were closed on the A48 Ringland Way near junction 24 of the M4 at the Coldra as teams worked at the scene.

Major congestion built as a result on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway and on the A449 southbound between Usk and Newport, with delays there of more than an hour.

Pictures from the area show traffic at a standstill in places.

Traffic Wales said: "We are dealing with a broken down HGV on the A48 Ringland way at J24 The Coldra. Traffic Officers are on scene, Tow lane closures are in place for recovery, please be aware of congestion in the area."

All lanes re-opened just before 11.40am, but severe congestion remains in the area and on surrounding routes.
