Broch Estrup leads as Mehaffey misses cut

A fine second-round 66 has left Nicole Broch Estrup on top of the leaderboard at the Joburg Ladies Open at Modderfontein Golf Club while Olivia Mehaffey missed the cut with the damage mostly done on Wednesday.

The County Down golfer opened up with a tough 78, a triple bogey at the 7th proving particularly painful, but she played much better in round two with a level-par 73.

Mehaffey dropped another shot at the seventh on Thursday while there were further bogeys at the third, 12th and 17th. A double bogey six on the fourth also hurt her card.

However her round also included six birdies and an eagle at the ninth on a day when only seven players broke the 70 mark.

Broch Estrup was one of those and that allowed the Danish golfer to open up a two-shot lead over Sweden's Linnea Johansson, Klara Davidson Spilkova of the Czech Republic and England’s Lily May Humphreys.

Broch Estrup’s card was bogey free with seven birdies helping her into a good position at the halfway point.
