Brits amazed after learning real use of sombrero hat on Sierra Tequila bottles

National Tequila Day is here friends!

The celebration, which falls on July 24 each year, is all about the tipple. Some might like their tequila in a margarita or mojito, while others are more hardcore and prefer taking it as a shot.

Now in case you've never realised the sombrero hat on the Sierra Tequila bottle, it turns out there's a good reason for it. Over on X, formerly Twitter, Brits were left mind-blown after the revelation was shared.

This beloved alcohol staple, renowned for its unique packaging featuring a sombrero on the top as a nod to its Mexican roots, has a secret feature.

User @J4ckmull said: "I was today years old when I realised the sombrero on top of the bottle of tequila was so you could salt your glass."

It appears the design of the tiny hat is perfect for holding salt, which you can then pour your shot glass into. This clever trick leaves the rim of the glass subtly coated with salt, priming it perfectly for your next tequila shot.

Responding to the revelation, one social media user jested: "Don't even lie, you know you all thought it was just a cute little sombrero for your bottle." The tip stirred quite a frenzy, with it amassing hundreds of retweets.

One bewildered user stated: "Shut the front door! I didn't know that. I thought it was just a little sombrero." Another exclaimed: "What no this changes the entire game."

While another confessed: "Blew my mind." And someone else stated: "Just found out the little sombrero on the tequila bottle is for juicing your lime and coating your shot glass with salt. Shook."

As a reminder, those concerned about their personal alcohol consumption should seek advice from a GP or visit drinkaware.co.uk for further support.
