British GP: Kevin Magnussen a bit stumped by qualifying performance

Kevin Magnussen appeared a little stumped as to why he could not get out of Q1 in qualifying for the British Grand Prix, with him saying the car had been feeling good in the wet.

A soaking Silverstone circuit made for some high drama and brilliant intrigue over the course of the hour, with the drivers showing off all of their skills to keep their cars out of the wall.

It was a frustrating session for Magnussen, and team-mate Mick Schumacher, however, as both Haas cars were eliminated at the first hurdle – a far cry from their fifth and sixth place in similar conditions last time out in Montreal.

Naturally, with that in mind, Kevin was asked after Q1 in the press pen here at Silverstone what he thought the reasons might have been behind that and he admitted that he wasn’t too sure as the car had felt good:

“I don’t know.

“It seemed the first part of the session was quite good and then towards the end it felt like I was pushing as hard as I could but everyone found more pace than I did.

“We made some big changes but it was wet so you can’t really compare, the car felt good in terms of balance. In Imola and Canada we did well [in the wet] but those tracks are different to this one so perhaps we can learn from that.”

A tough start to proceedings for Haas this weekend when it matters, then, and both drivers will be itching to get themselves up the grid come lights out at 3pm today.
