British GP: Alex Albon reveals qualifying frustrations as he finishes P16

Alex Albon revealed his frustrations over his qualifying for the British Grand Prix, with the Williams driver set to start P16 for tomorrow’s race.

The British-born Thai driver is naturally eager to do well here at Silverstone, with it also the home Grand Prix of his team, but qualifying just did not go how he would have wanted.

Indeed, he found himself unable to get out of Q1 when he felt as though he could have even had a chance of making the top 10, as his team-mate Nicholas Latifi eventually did.

And, speaking post-qualifying to the press here at Silverstone, Albon revealed just how frustrated he was feeling:

“I’m frustrated more than angry. I think we should have got into Q2 and maybe Q3. We tend to do quite well in these conditions. We tried to do a cool-down lap before the final lap to get into the optimal window but I think the track was too cold to do one.

“We probably just needed to make it a bit simpler for ourselves and we would have got into Q2.”

Albon has also got new upgrades on his car, whilst Latifi does not, and he feels as though he is making progress with them and that they should close the gap to those in front of them in normal running conditions:

“We’ve made some really good progress from yesterday to today. It’s going in the right place, there’s still a bit [to improve] there, but it’s put us more towards the tail of the midfield and I would have preferred it to have been dry today to see where it was at.”
