Brianna Ghey stabbed 28 times in park by teenagers who had discussed killing other children, prosecutors allege

Two teenagers who murdered Brianna Ghey had a 'preoccupation' with 'violence, torture and death' and had discussed killing other children, prosecutors allege. Brianna, 16, a transgender girl, died after being stabbed 28 times in a park near Warrington, jurors at Manchester Crown Court were told on the first day of the trial.

The two defendants accused of her murder, known in press reports as Girl X and Boy Y, had also discussed killing other children prior to Brianna's death, the jury was told. The defendants, Girl X, from Warrington, and Boy Y, from Leigh, both deny murder. They cannot be named for legal reasons.

Girl X told her co-defendant that she was 'obsessed' with Brianna. The pair had planned to kill Brianna two weeks earlier but she had not turned up, prosecutors alleged.

Girl X claimed to have a 'really sharp blade, the same one that Sweeney Todd uses'. Deanna Heer KC, prosecuting, claimed that the pair, both aged 16, had a 'preoccupation' with 'violence, torture and death'.

Messages shared by the defendants 'record them discussing how they wanted to kill the people that they knew', the KC added. She said: "If that is not an unusual way for teenagers to speak to one another, the messages also demonstrate how, over time, they encouraged one another to think about how they would actually carry out a killing, and the messages show how they planned together to kill Brianna in just the way that she was in fact killed."

Jurors were told that Brianna was spotted by dog walkers in Linear Park in Culcheth near Warrington, at about 3pm on Saturday February
