Brewers use small ball in Game 2, take 2-0 lead on Dodgers - ESPN
MILWAUKEE — The Brewers posted 12 hits, including 10 singles, in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series on Monday, scoring four runs in the final four innings en route to a 7-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Brewers took a 2-0 series lead as the teams turn to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Wednesday.
William Contreras hit a tying homer in the fifth and singled home the go-ahead run an inning later for the Brewers, who improved to 5-1 in the postseason. Four relievers combined to retire the last 15 Dodgers batters in order.
«We threw out three hits tonight. So, it was some of the starter, some of the bullpen. I don't have an answer why,» Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts said. «I know that they've got good arms; so do we. I think they're just finding ways to win pitches better than we are. Sometimes, you've got to find a way to get a base hit, and those guys, there's a lot of balls that weren't hit hard tonight but found the outfield grass. That's hitting.»
The Brewers are chasing their second pennant and first in the National League. They made their lone World Series appearance in 1982, when they were in the American League.
«I respect the Dodgers a great deal. That's all there is to it. They're arguably one of the best teams ever put together. They're a great team, and I'm not going to think about anything but the next game,» Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy said. «That's it. Just one inning, one pitch at a time. Don't look ahead. Don't plan. Don't complain, explain; just keep going.
»Hopefully, the guys will get a break. Long flight tonight, get a break tomorrow and do a little workout, keep your body moving and then ready to play the next game like it's their last."
