Brendan Rodgers doesn't need Celtic projects or development players and one transfer tactic is now vital

Rehearsals are well underway for the latest run of Celtic: The Musical, with the curtain to be raised in September.

But unlike the stage show, the football team hasn’t quite cast all of the leading roles yet. And some of the punters in the stalls are getting a little tetchy.

They should know the drill by now though. Celtic have already signed five players but only two of them are first team ready.

Kieran Tierney will walk in, it remains to be seen if Benjamin Nygren will be utilised as a wide man or no.10, but either way, he’ll be around it.

As for the rest? Don’t bank on seeing them too often for a while.

Ross Doohan is a more than solid back up, who might be the main man down the line.

The noises around Callum Osmand suggest the former Fulham striker is going to be part of the set up but this is a kid who has yet to make a senior appearance in the game.

He might have bags of potential – but it’s going to take time. Likewise Hayato Inamura. Celtic have regularly plundered the Japanese market, but this is a left field one regardless.

Unlike Japan caps Kyogo, Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Tomoki Iwata, Imamura is only a year out of university in his homeland with little experience and no international recognition at any age level.

But there’s no need to get any knickers in a twist, it’s a low risk punt for a ball playing left sided centre back.

He’ll either get a taste in the second half of the season and look the part – or he’ll quietly head off for a loan spell in Belgium. No harm done either way.

Yet for all Celtic have been busy, there’s still a sense they haven’t really got started in the market.
