Roman Abramovich has confirmed he is looking to sell Chelsea amid rumours that the Russian oligarch was looking to move on.

Rumours mounted that the Blues owner could sell the club as reports emerged that he could be sanctioned on Saturday, something that could include the stripping of personal assets.

Ahead of the Carabao Cup final, Chelsa released a statement saying that Abramovich intended to hand over care of the club to Chelsea's trustees, although it remained unclear what that meant.

In the days that followed, reports have emerged that the billionaire was now actively looking to sell and that has now been confirmed by the man himself, less than an hour before Chelsea kick-off in the FA Cup against Luton.

In a statement on the club's official website, he wrote: "I would like to address the speculation in media over the past few days in relation to my ownership of Chelsea FC. As I have stated before, I have always taken decisions with the Club’s best interest at heart.

"In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the Club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the Club, the fans, the employees, as well as the Club’s sponsors and partners.
