Breaking Parrott and Obafemi start in attack for Scotland clash

Troy Parrott and Michael Obafemi have been picked to lead the line for Ireland in tonight's UEFA Nations League clash with Scotland at Hampden Park.

There is no place for Shane Duffy in the side to face Steve Clarke's side as the central defensive trio will be made up by John Egan, who will captain the team, Nathan Collins and Dara O'Shea.

Matt Doherty and James McClean will start as wing-backs on the right and left flank respectively, while Josh Cullen will anchor midfielder alongside Jayson Molumby and Jason Knight.

Derby County utility man Knight will be tasked with linking play with the front two of Parrott and Obafemi, while Gavin Bazunu returns as goalkeeper having missed the summer schedule through injury.

Ireland beat Scotland 3-0 in the reverse fixture in June and while the manager hinted that he may opt for the same outfield ten for the Hampden fixture, he has made one change with West Brom's O'Shea given the nod ahead of Duffy, who has been struggling for game time this season at Fulham.

Seamus Coleman and Jeff Hendrick have to settle for a place on the bench, while Liam Scales did not make the matchday 23.

In-form strikers Chiedozie Ogbene and Scott Hogan are almost named among the substitutes

Republic of Ireland: Gavin Bazunu; John Egan, Nathan Collins, Dara O'Shea; Matt Doherty, James McClean, Josh Cullen, Jayson Molumby, Jason Knight; Troy Parrott, Michael Obafemi
