BREAKING: Man City discover Champions League last 16 opponents as path to final confirmed

Manchester City will play Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Blues secured a straight path into the knockout stages having finished eighth in the League Phase. That meant Pep Guardiola's men avoided the play-off round and guaranteed themselves a home second leg in next month's last-16 tie.

City knew they would face one of either Bodo/Glimt, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Benfica, and that quartet was narrowed to two after this week's play-offs. Bodo stunned Inter with a 2-1 victory in the San Siro to complete a 5-2 aggregate success while Madrid, who won 1-0 against Benfica in the first leg, secured their passage to the last-16 with a 2-1 second leg victory.

City's potential semi-final opponents will come from the ties involving PSG vs Chelsea and Liverpool vs Galatasaray. Arsenal are on the other side of the draw so the Blues cannot meet the Gunners until the final in Budapest. The Gunners face Bayer Leverkusen in the last-16 and if they win will play either Bodo/Glimt or Sporting Lisbon.
