BREAKING: Major emergency response with gas and electricity teams called to street - latest updates

A major emergency response is underway in Middleton this afternoon a car appears to have veered off a road and crashed into a nearby hedge.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police and crews from Greater Manchester Fire Service have been deployed to Newbank Close at the junction with Grimshaw Lane.

Teams from energy supplier EON, and Electricity North West have been pictured assessing the scene.

The full circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet clear and it is not clear if anyone has been injured. GMP, GMFRS, EON and Electricity North West have been approached for further comment.

Pictures from the scene show a black vehicle trapped inside a large hedge. Debris can be seen scattered across the pavement, with a road sign cut in half.
