BREAKING: Crash shuts two lanes of major Greater Manchester road - latest updates

Two lanes on East Lancashire Road are closed due to a crash this morning.

The incident has happened at the junction with Atherleigh Way, in Wigan. East Lancashire Road connects the Greater Manchester borough with Salford, with Atherleigh Way itself connecting Leigh to Bolton.

The incident was reported by Transport for Greater Manchester shortly before 11am on Sunday morning. The organisation has released its advice on the incident.

A statement from TfGM said: "2 of 3 lanes closed westbound along A580 East Lancashire Road jct of A579 Atherleigh Way due to a RTC. This incident is passable, please approach with care & caution and allow more time for your journey if headed this way."

It said: "People slowing to look at accident on the opposite side and earlier accident on A580 Westbound from A579 Atherleigh Way to East Lancashire Road. All lanes have been re-opened."
