BREAKING: Bomb squad scrambled and 100m cordon put in place after 'unknown substances' found

Bomb disposal experts have been scrambled to a street in Knutsford after 'unknown substances' were found at a property.

A 100m cordon has been put in place by police in the Longridge area after the discovery was made as officers carried out a warrant at around 7am this morning (Monday). Five people have been arrested, Cheshire Police said.

Firefighters and paramedics are also on the scene, as well as police and the bomb squad. Some homes have been evacuated with the cordon set up as a 'precautionary measure', police added.

A reception centre has also been set up for local residents at Knutsford Leisure Centre. In a statement, Cheshire Police said: "Officers are currently dealing with an ongoing incident at an address in Knutsford.

"At around 7am today, Monday 27 November, Officers from Cheshire Police conducted a warrant in the Longridge area. A number of unknown substances were found in the address and five people have been arrested.

"Fire and ambulance are in attendance at the scene and a 100-metre cordon has been put in place as a precautionary measure. A reception centre for local residents has been set up at Knutsford Leisure Centre. Further details will be provided when available.
