BREAKING: Arrest after shots fired at a man by trio in balaclavas

Police investigating a street shooting in Oldham have arrested a suspect. A man, 23, is being held on suspicion of firearms offences after three masked men opened fire on a man in Belmont Street last month.

No injuries were reported in the shooting, which happened at around 11.15pm on September 19. Earlier that evening, there was also an incident on nearby Radcliffe Street where threats were made with a gun.

Today (Friday) Greater Manchester Police confirmed a suspect had been arrested following a swoop in Chadderton on Thursday.

GMP confirmed detectives based in Oldham alongside specialist officers from the force's Critical Wanted Unit executed a warrant at an address in Chadderton.

A 23-year-old man was held on suspicion of firearms offences and was taken to custody - where he was being questioned on suspicion of assault, burglary, and drugs offences, according to GMP.

The arrest follows 'over three weeks of meticulous enquiries' by detectives, said GMP.

The investigation began after at least three shots were fired at a man on Belmont Street by three men wearing balaclavas late on the evening of 19 September - shortly after an earlier incident on Radcliffe Street where threats were made with a firearm.

At the time a resident on Belmont Street told the M.E.N: "I hope people realise that somebody could've been killed, whether it was a child or an elderly person, one of us could've been killed last night."
