Brave bus depot manager saves man from knife attack

A bus depot manager has been praised after saving a man from a knife attack. Zachary McAskill was working as an operations manager at Stagecoach's Hyde Road depot in Ardwick when an incident began to unfold outside on November 11 last year.

Five men are said to started attacking another man, with one seen to be carrying a knife. Zachary stepped in and was able to calm the situation down.

This meant that the man being attacked was able to board a bus and get to safety. The incident was not reported to the police due to a lack of CCTV of the incident, Stagecoach say, but he has still been recognised for his bravery by the company.

Zachary said: "I'm just glad that I was there to help the man who was in danger. That situation could have easily escalated and ended with a loss of life."

He has since been given Stagecoach's Star of the Month award for this month to recognise his brave actions on that day last year.

Lee Wasnidge, Managing Director of Stagecoach Manchester, added: "Stagecoach strives to serve its community, but the action taken by Zachary when faced with this terrifying situation was truly outstanding. His bravery helped a person escape from danger and he should be very proud of himself, just as we are of him.

"Zachary is truly deserving of this month’s Star of the Month award, and we’re proud to have him on our team."
