Brainiacs Scrabble Club scored the highest point on an opening day at the Mind Games Incorporated (MGI) Scrabble League, which kicked off at the weekend in Lagos.

At the 2022 MGI Scrabble League, organised to improve the standard of scrabble in the country, over 200 players from 24 clubs are competing for honours at the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja.

According to the convener of MGI League, Lukman Owolabi, the league, which is divided into divisions A and B, has been successful with clubs that are eager to register for the event.

“This year has witnessed a large turnout of players attracted by the progress of the league. Our target is to get more Nigerians involved in scrabble, which Nigeria is the number one country in the world.

“The League attracts the best and upcoming stars in scrabble from across the country, so, the standard is very high.

“All MGI needs is more sponsors to keep the stake high,” he said.

Former world scrabbles champion, Wellington Jighere of Lekki Bombers, scored the highest point in the individual category, while Team Southern Crowns emerged tops in Division B.

According to organisers of the League, over N7 million cash worth of prizes would be won, with the champion club getting N1.5 million, while the Division B winner will get N1.2 million.

Abuja will host the next stanza of the league in May, while Benin City will be the next call on July 23.

Lagos will host the final round of games in October.
