Brad Galinson: Gillingham chairman on their worldwide search for a new manager following Neil Harris’ sacking

Chairman Brad Galinson says they are searching worldwide for a new manager at Gillingham.

Neil Harris was sacked last Thursday following a defeat at Crewe and since then the team is being managed on an interim basis by Keith Millen.

Millen has said he doesn’t want the job but there will be plenty that do.

In his post on X, Galinson states it will be his decision who takes over as manager but it’s understood the club’s managerial hierarchy of Kenny Jackett, Andy Hessenthaler and Paul Scally are involved in the process.

Galinson says that process is “going well” and they they are “being methodical and vetting candidates from around the world.”

Millen will continue to manage the team and takes them to Walsall this Saturday as Galinson insists they aren’t under pressure to make a quick appointment.

“I am not rushing,” wrote the US owner.

“This is an important long-term decision, but we are confident Keith will keep us on track whilst I make the decision on who is the right person to take us forward.”

Mr Galinson admitted it was a tough decision to call time on Harris’s stint as manager last week.

In his weekend programme notes, the chairman said: “To say the decision was made with a heavy heart is a tremendous understatement.

“Shannon (his wife and co-owner) and I are very fond of Neil. He is the consummate professional, worked unbelievably hard for us, and was incredibly dedicated to his role.

“I admire his love for the game, as well as the energy and time he put in behind the scenes, along with his staff, to prepare the squad accordingly for each fixture.

“No stone was ever left unturned and attention to detail was top-notch.

“Neil Harris is an honest, transparent man who I am proud to call a friend.
