Borussia Dortmund tell Man City and Manchester United when Erling Haaland talks will finish

Borussia Dortmund will discover whether they have any chance of keeping Erling Haaland in the next six weeks, giving Manchester City and Manchester United a timescale of when they could make an approach to sign the striker.

Haaland is one of Europe's most-wanted players this summer, with a reported release clause of around £75m altering plenty of clubs to his availability.

City are one of the front runners for Haaland's signature as they need a big-name striker, have the money to sign one, and are admirers of the prolific Dortmund frontman.

United have also been strongly linked, as have Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.

Dortmund, though, haven't ruled out the possibility of keeping Haaland at the Westfalonstadion for another season, and now CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has offered an update on their talks with Haaland's camp.

Offering a timeframe for talks with Haaland's representatives over his future, Watzke was asked whether Dortmund could keep their star striker, telling RTL/ntv: “I don’t know. That will certainly clear up in the next few weeks, maybe a month, maybe six weeks.”

That refers to meetings with Haaland's camp, but Watzke also confirmed that Dortmund are preparing for a situation where the striker could leave.

“If he leaves, we’ll handle it the way we’ve always done it," he said. "We’ll find someone new again.”
