Boniface scores again as Leverkusen draw at home

Victor Boniface was the target for Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in their 2-2 home draw against Holstein Kiel on Saturday.

Boniface’s goal took his tally in the German top flight to four in six games and one assist.

He has now scored in back-to-back games after netting the only goal in Leverkusen’s 1-0 win against AC Milan in the Champions League a few days ago.

Saturday’s fixture saw Leverkusen surrender a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home and miss the chance to go level on points with leaders Bayern Munich.

Boniface gave Leverkusen the lead in the 4th minute off an assist from Exequiel Palacios.

Just four minutes later, Jonás Hofmann got on the scoresheet to make it 2-0.

In the 26th minute, Boniface thought he had gotten his second goal, but it was overturned by VAR.

Five minutes into first-half stoppage time, Holstein Kiel pulled a goal back through Max Geschwill.

Then, in the 69th minute, Fiete Arp converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-2.

Following the draw, Leverkusen moved to fifth place on 11 points and are just two points off leaders Bayern, who can extend their lead if they win their own game.

Meanwhile, Boniface has been invited to the Super Eagles squad ahead of this month’s AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Libya.
