Bolton Wanderers' clash with Cheltenham Town postponed following Queen Elizabeth II's death

Bolton Wanderers League One clash away to Cheltenham Town this weekend will has been postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Her Majesty passed away on Thursday afternoon at Balmoral in Scotland. She was 96-years-old and the longest reigning British monarch in history.

Following the Queen's death, doubts emerged over this weekend's planned action across the EFL in the Championship, League One and League Two. Wanderers had been due to travel to Gloucestershire to take on the Robins.

The EFL met with the Government and the nation's sport sector over how to proceed with forthcoming fixtures. The EFL said they would make an annoucement at the 'earliest opportunity'.

Friday evening's matches across the EFL were cancelled as a mark of respect. Burnley v Norwich City in the Championship and Tranmere Rovers v Stockport County in League Two were called off.

It was confirmed this morning that the decision whether to call off games or not would be left at the discretion of organisers. This means the likes of the Premier League and the EFL taking the decision and it has been confirmed all fixtures, including Bolton's trip to Cheltneham, have been postponed.

An EFL statement read: " Further to discussions on Friday morning it has been determined that all EFL fixtures from 9-10 September will be postponed as a mark of respect by the National Sport to the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

"This is aligned with the approach that the Premier League and the FA will take with their competitions this weekend.
